The Milgard Window Company
The Milgard company recently celebrated 60 years in the window and door business. Begun in 1962, Milgard claims to have “one unwavering goal, and that’s to be the best window and door manufacturer.” In 1958, a gentleman by the name of Maurice Milgard Jr. opened Milgard Glass Co. in Tacoma, WA. His son Gary was along as a partner, and a second son, Jim, came on board in 1961. In 1962, Gary started an aluminum window company, Milgard Manufacturing.
The company made windows designed for the climatic demands of the Northwestern and Western US. Business thrived, and within a decade, Milgard was one of the leading window manufacturers west of the Rocky Mountains. Over the decades, Milgard has introduced sliding glass doors, insulated glass aluminum frame windows, vinyl frames, trademarked WoodClad ™ windows and doors and fiberglass windows and doors. Today, Milgard windows and doors are made in more than ten factories throughout the West. Since 2001, Milgard has been owned by Masco Corporation, the parent company of respected brands including Delta Faucet, Merillat Cabinets, Hot Spring Hot Tubs and Kraftmaid Cabinetry.
